The Portuguese midfielder was withdrawn after just 20 minutes of the Reds' Carling Cup second round win over Exeter City, nursing his shoulder following a challenge with Danny Coles.
Manager Kenny Dalglish has since confirmed that Meireles has suffered a collarbone injury.
He said: "Raul has hurt his collarbone.
"I don't know the technical term but he fell heavily.
"We don't know how serious it is but it'll be a few weeks."
